DIAMETER: Which one is the widely used option to do peer discovery in the network of Diameter nodes ?

I went through the following link:
http://diameter-protocol.blogspot.in/2011/03/diameter-peer-discovery.html

By going through the link, I came to know about two approaches to do peer discovery.
1. Selection Location Protocol (SLP)
2. DNS

I'm curious to know which one is the widely acceptable approach and on what basis acceptable option is better than the other one.

Hi Vikram,
As per RFC - 6733 , you can refer this following section 5.2 Diameter Peer Discovery.
The RFC clearly states that both mechanism need to be followed for any diameter application.
1. DNS Search
2. Manual Configuration.

Not sure about Selection Location Protocol, and didn't find in base RFC - 6733.

Now my query, Does a Diameter node keep its potential peers information in advance ?
