Mainly to reduce overall handover time, LTE introduces X2 interface between two eNodeBs. X2-AP is an application protocol which uses SCTP as transport. Apart of handover signalling, two eNodeBs exchange various other information. Please go through 36.423 specification for more details.

I am not satisfied by the answer Harshita as my question is how communication takes place between two eNBs? Means what are the steps? X2AP is the protocol, but how communication takes place internally?
1. First SCTP association is established between both the eNodeBs.
2. After establishing the successful SCTP association, eNodeBs exchange X2 setup request/response messages.
Each company has its own reference implementation. It is all about design. I wrote the things which are as per specification.
