Dual connectivity is known as inter-site carrier aggregation. It is used to achieved carrier aggregation between sites rather than cells within the same site. Dual connectivity is the best solution for Heterogeneous network (for example network of macro and femto cells).
Mobility management in Dual connectivity is maintained by Macro while it uses femto cell for user plane aggregation to provide higher throughput.
In Dual connectivity, there are two terms MeNodeB (Master eNodeB) and SeNodeB. Master eNodeB is responsible for RRC layer signalling related for an UE. However both Master eNodeB and SeNodeB have their different PDCCH and PDSCH. Data for UE at splitted at PDCP layer. Unlike to carrier aggregation, here RLC and MAC would be different for Master eNodeB and Secondary eNodeB.
Whatever I know based on my study I shared but actually I have not yet worked in this technology.

While digging into 5G NR dual connectivity, ( and as you are aware that it is based on LTE dual connectivity). I want to learn a bit about how LTE put the foundation for this feature to come towards 5g.

I want to read the LTE architecture specs related to dual connectivity.
I donot have much RAN background in LTE. Could somebody from this background give me some quick hints, to look into which 3gpp TS or TR to understand some basics.

Btw there is 3GPP TS 36.401 doesnot have much info it looks like.
