Precise Pangolin is the codename for the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release, which was published in April 2012 and will be supported until April 2017.

Lucid Lynx is the codename for the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS release, which was published in April 2010 and was supported on the desktop until May 2013 (already out of support) and on the server will be supported until April 2015.

More details about the different Ubuntu releases, their codenames, and support schedules can be found on the wiki:

I just tried to build a package from source, and it died looking for one of these headers (stdarg.h or varargs.h) and not finding either one.

It's been a long time since I wrote code to use these myself, but I cannot believe they just disappeared. However, I cannot find them on my system. I have the usual dev tools, or thought I did. What am I missing?

Unfortunately it doesn't work on CentOS, but it works great on Ubuntu. It is not the version of PHP. I tried the same version on both OS and on Ubuntu works while on CentOS doesn't.
