How to remove the white background of an image?

I have an image with white background and want to remove it? any suggestion on tool and procedure to do it.

  1. Use http://www.pixlr.com and open the image.
  2. Add layer.
  3. select the old layer and unlock it
  4. Select the area using the pan and press delete...

And u are done...
