S5 interface is in non-roaming LTE core between SGW and PGW. S8 is the same for roaming LTE core nw

I think u have already answered Non Roaming can be S5 which can be GTP or PMIP where as Roaming one will be S8 i.e. PMIP.

I think PMIP is used when UE handedover from 3GPP network to Non-3GPP  network.
Both S5 and S8 can be either PMIP or GTP. Courtesy this link (http://3gpp-n-lte.blogspot.in/2010/02/why-pmip-is-being-used-in-s5s8.html), this is what I understood. Some operators prefer using PMIP throughout their n/w as it facilitates connecting to non-3gpp accesses, whereas some operators want only GTP as their n/w is evolved from UMTS and they dont want too much hassles in managing different transport protocols(my guess). As a result of which, a user roaming between these two will not be supported home-routed traffic, he will only be local-breakout'ed. Therefore to support both home-routed and local breakout, S/PGWs have dual stacks.

Hi all

Because combined S-GW/P-GW is one node, so do we still need to implement the connection between them?
Is it necessary for core network to implement GTP-based or PMIP based S5/S8 interface if it is combined S-GW/P-GW?

Is there any 3GPP spec mention about combined S-GW/P-GW? what is the cons and reasons to do this?

thanks

while going through 3GPP 23.401, I stopped at PGW functionality. The following statement was written.
"If a UE is accessing multiple PDNs, there may be more than one PDN GW for that UE, however a mix of S5/S8 connectivity and Gn/Gp connectivity is not supported for that UE simultaneously". I couldn't understand it. Can someone please elaborate it.

CDMA2000 uses Radius for all AAA.
3GPP uses GTP' for accounting in both UMTS and LTE but (afaik) uses Diameter for accounting in IMS.
What is the rationale behind this?

What are the various protocols used at each interface, please summarize as I am newbie to LTE, it would be helpful.
