When exactly a PMIP based tunnel is required to establish and What are the other use cases where PMIP tunnel can/should be established?

If the legacy network is WCDM operator may chose GTP tunnel if it is EVDO it may chose PMIP.

In short PMIP is used when UE handedover from 3GPP network i.e. LTE to Non-3GPP network.

Some operators prefer using PMIP throughout their n/w as it facilitates connecting to non-3gpp accesses, whereas some operators want only GTP as their n/w is evolved from UMTS and they dont want too much hassles in managing different transport protocols. As a result of which, a user roaming between these two will not be supported home-routed traffic, he will only be local-breakout'ed. Therefore to support both home-routed and local breakout, S/PGWs have dual stacks.

LTE: What is the significance of S5 interface between L-GW and SGW ?

I have one doubt over S5 interface. Interface between SGW and PGW in lte core known as S5 interface. Now I found again S5 interface between L-GW( which is co-located with HeNB ) and SGW of core network. Can someone please explain why this interface is required ?

On which basis MME selects the S-GW?

When UE sends an attach request then on which bases MME selects S-GW for that UE?
does this information is passing from HSS with the subscriber profile information?

PDN GW address provided by the HSS in S6a-IDR

PDN connection is already established to a PDN-GW (PDN GW address was resolved by DNS resolution)
The HSS sends to the serving MME, S6a-IDR (Insert Subscriber Data) where the PGW-address (MIP6-Agent-info AVP) set to another IP-address is specified in the APN configuration.
Should the MME immediately tear down the existing PDN connection and re-establish a new connection with the PDN-GW present in the IDR message?
