A Software Center for Fedora?

One of the things I really like about Ubuntu is the concept behind the software center. Canonical has poorly implemented it but the idea behind it is pretty solid.

That got me wondering...why doesn't Fedora have a similar product? Yes, I'm aware of Yum Extender but that's not a 'proper' software store. I mean a full fledged store, complete with backend processing
and tracking.

Perhaps this is something that would be better for the dev list but I thought I'd float it here before going there just to see the general feel of the community.

One of the things I find unacceptably stoopid about Ubuntu is the software center :-). It is so bad in the latest 13.04 that ubuntu has essentially become unusable.

I wanted to install the ssh server in an ubuntu virtual machine at work. Typing "ssh" in the search field gives me books about ssh from amazon, a few GUI tools that presumably use ssh somehow (though it certainly didn't seem relevant from the information provided), but no choice to install the dadgum ssh server on the system.

I wouldn't mention ubuntu as even a bad example of a potentially good idea :-).

Richard Hughes from Red Hat has started working on a app center

http://worldofgnome.org/gnome-is-ready-to-unleash-the-beast-an-app-center/ [1]
http://worldofgnome.org/richard-hughes-about-gnome-software/ [2]

It might use the tagging info from Fedora tagger https://apps.fedoraproject.org/tagger/ [3] etc and aims to provide a distribution neutral interface using the PackageKit API (not the user interface). I havent checked the current status of it but it should be release soon.

I assume this is only going to benefit gnome user, What about the rest of fedora community?
KDE's apper supports AppStream already, so KDE will have similar
functionality once the extra metadata is available in Fedora.

It would be up to Xfce and LXDE to implement their own software center
if they want one; it isn't really the GNOME devs' fault if they don't.

Why would you assume that?  You are free to run it any desktop environment you want.

So I wanted to remove libimobiledevices since I *though* I was the one who'd installed it and it was no longer needed (I'm ditching the iPod).

I typed
sudo yum remove blahblah

where blahblah was the actual package name for libimobiledevices.

All of a sudden, I saw it removing all sorts of stuff I didn't want to: blueman, banshee, empathy, etc. It then dropped me to a terminal screen where it had started blueman again. It stayed there.

Finally, I restarted the computer and it only starts at runlevel 3 (non-graphical mode). I have to log in and type startx every time to bring up the desktop. BUT, it only automatically starts GNOME3 and not
XFCE. I also have no way to select XFCE as I no longer get the login screen in graphical mode. It just starts the desktop.

How can I fix this? Did I just do something that will require me to reinstall my system?

Oh, I also tried to do

sudo yum install libimobiledevices and it told me that it was already installed.

Each time I turn off Fedora 24, I get the following message about 50 times printed in the console:

Kernel not configured for semaphores (System V IPC). Not using udev synchronisation code.
device-mapper: remove ioctl on fedora_alpha-root failed: Device or resource busy Command failed

What does that mean?

Also, Is there any How To about setting up things so that Android Studio uses the Oracle Java but the rest of the programs use Open JDK?

Is using a VM the only way to do it? Id rather not have to do that.
