FC18 Installation: No X comes

Please advise how to get GUI up and running?
I used FC13 and I needed to upgrade to FC18. So I created a USB installation flash and installed Fedora 18. But after booting only CLI comes. I can login and use it normally but unable to get X server up and running. May be something new came what I don't know about?

what happens if you type startx at the prompt? do you get any errors, if so paste them here so we can investigate further.
Thank you for your advice...I tried, but there is no startx at all (neither 'which' nor 'find' canlocate it).:(
ok the next thing to try might be to....

su
yum groupinstall "Basic X Window System"

then see if you can startx

after that if you have success you may want to install a desktop environment
of your choice...

su
yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop"

or....

su
yum groupinstall "KDE Plasma Workspaces"

to get a list of available group do....

yum grouplist
It did help ! ;)I installed over 600 packages and was able to run startx. But after rebooting X doesn't start but again only CLI comes. :(Probably you know where the frog is sitting, don't you?

I'm experiencing random freezes of two desktops, both up-to-date FC 18, totally different hardware (Core2Duo E5300, Core i7), different Graphis Cards but both Nvidia using nouveau with a dual monitor setup.

Desktop completely freezes, Num Lock on keyboard is dead. Gut feeling tells me it is induced by scrolling.

When happening, I can ssh into the machine, everything looks perfectly normal. No 100% CPU on nothing, no zombies, no whatever. Nothing in dmesg, Xorg.0.log, messages.

Restart of graphical.target does not do anything, when killing /usr/bin/X (with -9 though) I get kdm back.

Any thoughts where to debug further?

Why system-config-lvm disappeared since fedora 18? Is there a reason?

We are developing internal software using MySql dB and are planning to use Fedora for the server.

The question is how do we know that this hardware (motherboard, CPU) really support Fedora version 18 or 19? We are looking at mobo from Asus or Intel or Gigabyte, but did not find firm answer. We did not find the info from mobo websites either.

The mobo that got our interest are the ones with H77 or Z77 or H87 chipsets.

Is there any URL for me to get the information we need?

Since I am using the MATE desktop, I have yet to find the package that recategorized the desktop menus such as Electronics, Games, and so on.

Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

I have upgraded a pc from fedora 18 to 19, and I am left with an ugly grub2 boot loader. So, I have removed packages grub2, grub2-tools, erased /etc/default/grub, re-installed them, and run:

grub2-install /dev/sda grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

But grub still has no theme. Package grub2-starfield-theme is installed though. When I reinstalled grub2-tools, no /etc/default/grub was created. Is there a reason for that?
