Do small network requires DEA, what are the pros and cons of having and not having one?

Depends on the peering arrangements. Main application is, when roaming needs to be supported. In general if an operator is opening up a Diameter interface to external networks, he should have an DEA (with all required interfaces supported), which will also hide the internal topology. But as long as the signalling is between the internal components (like PCEF, PCRF, Charging), edge agent is not needed.

Please find the description of the problem:
A diameter client and server communicates in the network through Proxy Agent.
Here, I have assumed PCEF is a diameter client and PCRF is a diameter server. Interface between the PCEF and the PCRF is known as Gx.

Does Proxy agent, which sits between PCEF and PCRF, need to support Gx application ?
Does Proxy agent validate presence of any mandatory or optional AVP when it receives a message from a diamter client (PCEF) before forwarding it to diameter server (PCRF) ?

Can someone please provides the detailed behavior of a proxy agent ?

DIAMETER: Why a translation agent is always a Stateful peer?

Suppose in S6a interface which is a stateless interface an Engine (translation agent) has been placed in between MME and HSS for routing purpose and to translate the Diameter message in to Radius.

As the client-servers are not maintaining the state so after receiving the answer they will delete the session. But what about the agent who is maintaining the state there? hOW he would be informed that it can delete the session?
