Using multi layer beamforming SU-MIMO can have multiple layers using same time-freq resources...it is equivalent to nxn spatial multiplexing MIMO but technically it is different. It is supported by beamforming in TM8 and TM9.

Hi,
SU-MIMO is used to support peak data rate for individual users and MU-MIMO is to increase cell capacity so that all user will get fairness. It is depends on the operator based on the subscription and ENB type (small cell, macro cell etc) he can decide SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO.

Why are all MIMO techniques always in a multiple of 2 (i.e. 2x2, 4x2, 4x4, 8x8)? Why aren't there MIMO schemes such as 3x3, 5x5, etc.?
