Connected mode DRX controls the UE's PDCCH monitoring activity. Without DRX, UE monitors PDCCH for every sub-frame. There are two types of DRX cycles: Long and short. Network configures DRX in RRC and provides timer values. There are several conditions to check before UE can enter into DRX cycle (first short if configured and if there is no transmission during short DRX then long). You can read about the conditions and parameters in section 36.321 section 5.7.

A good high level overview is provided here.

If I am right, an eNodeB can support multiple cells and each cell has different pci.
Now suppose enodeB has two cells i.e cell1 and cell2. If I am going right, both the cell(s) should have different PCIs.
I have assumed UE is attached to cell1 and due to mobility, it is moved to cell2. During this movement, what message shall be exchanged between UE and enodeB. And Is there any message send to MME regarding the new cell ?
