LTE: Why does one to many relationship required between an eNodeB and multiple MMEs ?

We know, in lte, an eNodeB can connect to multiple MMEs. Can someone please explain in details ?
Apart from load balancing, is there any other reason ?

Its not just load balancing, connection to the multiple MME make an inbuild redundancy in the system. In the UMTS/GSM operator need to install the MSC and an redundant MSC (in most of the cases) which can be saved here.

LTE Ran-Sharing feature, eNodeB connects to multiple MMEs using s1-flex.

Need clarity on following items:
1. What is the use of "UE selected plmn" information for an eNodeB ?
2. Is the ECGI/TAI constructed based on the primary plmn (PLMN broadcasted in 0th index in SIB1 ) or based on the UE selected PLMN ?
