F18 no support for NV18GL [Quadro NVS 280 SD] (rev c1) video card?

I have been trying to install F18 on an A7V8Z-x with a NV18GL [Quadro NVS 280 SD] (rev c1) video card. The same configuration is fine with F17, but with F18 after the install and first reboot, the grub screen comes up fine, but then the screen goes grey and in the middle of the screen is a rectangle outlined faintly in white, which I assume is the login box, but no text or other indicators are intelligible. I have tried installing the nvidia drivers from the command line, but also no joy.Has anyone else been able to get F18 to work with this video card, and if so, how.

Can you boot to runlevel 3? What does dmesg show you about the card? Can you login via ssh to the system after a reboot and look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file?

Since I am using the MATE desktop, I have yet to find the package that recategorized the desktop menus such as Electronics, Games, and so on.

Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

I tried to upgrade a system to fc18 using fedup. The root is encrypted. I first updated fc17 to the latest packages and rebooted, then run fedup using a locally mounted ISO image and "--network 18" which ran to uneventful conclusion. On reboot the password was supplied and the system ran for about five hours (was reading a book and checking every chapter or so), and after the next reboot the system crashed during boot.

On a reboot the list of boot options appeared, but none continued, unable to find a filesystem, and not ever asking for a LUKS password. A boot from recovery drive showed no usable data on the internal drive, it was not marked as LUKS (as far as I can tell), not password was requested, no filesystem was found, an
attempt to mount the partition manually resulted in no password prompt and no filesystem identified.

With no working way to upgrade and about 17 more to do, if I have to back up and hand install a new OS, it sure won't be Fedora, the upgrade process only works about 50% of the time on unencrypted systems, and there seems no working path on encrypted. The old "update" worked so reliably, can't the developers admit fedup was a bad idea and and return to a sane update procedure?

On a F18, I installed livecd-tools-18.15-1

I downloaded CenOS6.x minimal .iso and with livecd-iso-to-disk the resulting USB is never bootable: the computer doesnt boot on it. Tested on many computers.

The fact is I succeded to install CentOS on a Netbook (no CD/DVD tray), but I dont remember how I invoked livecd-iso-to-disk.

I tried with many combinations (/dev/sdc is the USB pendrive):

$ sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --force  /dev/sdc

$ sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --force  /dev/sdc1

- Format with VFAT on partiion #1 then
$ sudo livecd-iso-to-disk  /dev/sdc1

- Format with Ext on partiion #1 then
$ sudo livecd-iso-to-disk  /dev/sdc1

...

I don't remember what I tried, but it was many, mostly tried with CentOS 6.2

Please, if someone has a F18 + an USB drive: would you test and see if you succeed? If you ever succeed, how did you?

I'm trying to get my sdcard to automount on my nexus 10 through USB OTG cable. I can manually mount it and it works. Here is what I have setup so far. Is there anything else I need to do? I manually mount it like

"mount -t vfat /dev/block/sda1 /mnt/usbdisk"

init.manta.rc
 # usb usb sd card
 export SECONDARY_STORAGE /storage/usbdisk0
 mkdir /storage/usbdisk0 0666 system system

 symlink /storage/usbdisk0 /usbdisk
 symlink /storage/usbdisk0 /mnt/usbdisk

vold.fstab
dev_mount usbdisk /storage/usbdisk0 auto /dev/block/sda1
...
